Hi. I notice that lenses come with metric or imperial units on their focussing scales. I presume it is difficult/impossible/expensive to replace these. Any ideas?

1/3 of your presumption is correct.
It is expensive to change the scales.
Parts if they are available are expensive so is labour.
It is not difficult neither impossible to change the scales.
