Hi, just wondered if you ever got this sorted out?  I have a 2000 fcw and want to know how to use flash on it - it seems to have an unusual sized fitting on the body!

Any advice welcome, thanks.

Easy! Your flash should never be anywhere close to the body. Use a bar, or hand hold away from the camera, even use the tripod for the flash, and hand hold the camera. The "Rail" fitting is for other accessories that Hasselblad offered in "the good old days".

I have used the Nikon SB 800 flash with my Hasselblad 503 CX with great results.

I use a lot of flash especially with the Hasselblad as it will work at all shutter speeds, which means I can use 1.500th second in bright light for 'fill-in' flash. I have many flash units now, a lot GIVEN !!  I use a Mecablitz 45CT1 mostly with my 'blad. It is the 'Hammer-head' type with a bar to connect to the camera base.  For 'Fill-In'  I under-expose the flash by setting the flash to a lower f nuber than I am using on then lens for the exposure -- so say I want 1/250th second at f11 for 100 ASA in bright light I set the flash exposure dial to f5.6 and get 2 stops under-exposure and it balances the light well -- easy !
